The difference between PTFE and FEP materials

The Chinese name of PTFE: Polytetrafluoroethylene. It is a high-temperature chemical material containing PTFE. It is widely used in packaging, electronic and electrical, chemical energy, corrosion-resistant materials. Generally, suspended polytetrafluoroethylene resin can be made into plates, turned films, and tubes by molding. Can be suppressed and pushed into shape. It can be mixed with graphite to make plates, rods, packings, ropes, and raw material tapes.

FEP Chinese name: Polyfluoroethylene propylene. FEP is a copolymer of polytetraethylene and hexafluoropropylene. FEP has similar characteristics to PTFE, and has a good processing technology for thermoplastics, which makes it an important material to replace PTFE. FEP is widely used in the production of wire and cable in electronic equipment transmission lines used under high temperature and high frequency, connecting wires inside electronic computers, aerospace wires, and other special purpose installation lines, oil mine logging cables, submersible motor winding wires, micro Motor lead wires and so on.

The difference between PTFE and FEP:

①: PTFE non-stick coating can be used continuously at 260°C, with a maximum use temperature of 290-320°C, extremely low friction coefficient, good wear resistance and excellent chemical stability. It cannot be injection molded, but can be extruded or used as paint.

②: FEP non-stick coating melts and flows to form a non-porous film during baking. It has excellent chemical stability and excellent non-stick characteristics. The maximum use temperature is 200°C and the melting point is 270°C. It can be injection molded and extruded.

Therefore, PTFE material is much more practical than FEP. The reason is simple because of its characteristics: Both PTFE and FEP have strong corrosion resistance and chemical stability. The physical properties of PTFE are harder than FEP, and the temperature resistance is higher than FEP, about 200 degrees. However, PTFE is difficult to form, so many parts with complicated shapes are made of FEP. From the color point of view: PTFE is white and opaque, FEP is off-white, and translucent. Related links PVDF is polyvinylidene fluoride, which is slightly worse than PTFE and FEP, has low temperature resistance, and has slightly worse corrosion resistance. The price is comparable to PTFE and FEP. It's much cheaper.

PTFE has better temperature resistance, anti-corrosion performance and anti-sticking performance than FEP. PTFE is resistant to corrosion by any medium, and the color is absolutely white. It is generally used for fluorine-lined pipes, valves, seals, rods, etc. FEP is polyquan Fluorine ethylene propylene, the color is transparent, the corrosion resistance is equivalent to PTFE, generally used in fluorine-lined pumps or perfluorinated pumps PTFE+FEP=F50 that is fluorine plastic alloy, this material is also often used in fluorine plastic pumps, both of them are used Together, it can increase abrasion resistance.
